Privacy Policy — Keeper or Release

Keeper or Release is a game that teaches California ocean sport fishing regulations. This policy explains what it does and does not do with your information.
The short version
The game itself collects nothing about you. There is no account, no login, no server of ours, and no analytics. Every level, photograph, video and translation is bundled inside the app.
The app does show ads, supplied by Google AdMob. Ads are the only reason the app connects to the internet at all, and they are the only part of it that involves anyone other than you and your device.
What is stored on your device
Three things, saved in your device's local storage so the game remembers you between sessions:

This information stays on your device. It is not uploaded, not backed up to us, and not readable by us or anyone else. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
The name is whatever you type. It is never verified and never linked to anything.
Advertising
The app shows full-screen ads between levels, and an optional ad you can choose to watch in exchange for extra time. Ads are provided by Google AdMob.
Because this app is rated for ages 8 and up, it is treated as directed to children under Google Play's Families policy. That means we are required to, and do, configure AdMob as follows:
- Ads are not personalised. Interest-based advertising and remarketing are switched off. Your advertising ID is not used to build a profile or to target ads to you.
- Ad content is limited to a general audience rating (G).
- Only ad sources certified under Google Play's Families programme may serve.
Even with personalisation off, Google receives some technical information in order to deliver an ad at all and to prevent fraud — typically your IP address, device type and operating system version, and whether an ad was shown or clicked. We do not receive this information, and it is not connected to your name, your progress, or anything else in the game.

What is not collected
- No email address, phone number or account
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, camera or microphone access
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking
- No personalised or interest-based advertising
- Nothing you do inside the game — your catches, scores, mistakes and citations never leave your device
Network use
The app connects to the internet only to request ads. Nothing about your gameplay is transmitted. If the device is offline the game runs exactly as normal; you simply see no ads.
Children
The app is rated 8+ and is treated as child-directed. It applies COPPA child-directed treatment to every ad request, serves non-personalised ads only, and contains no in-app purchases, no chat, no social features and no links out to other services.

Keeper or Release is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) or any government agency.
The regulations in the game were verified against CDFW published sources on the dates cited on each rule screen. Fishing regulations change. Nothing in this game is legal advice, and it is not a substitute for the current California Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations booklet. Always check the current rules before you fish.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever starts collecting anything — for example if advertising is added — this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described here.
Change history
- 2 September 2026 — Google AdMob added. Before this version the app had no internet permission at all and showed no ads. Advertising is now the one thing that connects to the network; the game itself still collects nothing.
