Privacy Policy — Which First
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Which First collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no accounts. It cannot connect to the internet at all. Everything you put into it — your routines, your words, your photographs — stays on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking of any kind, and no third-party code in the app that could do any of those things.
We do not know who you are, whether you have used the app, or that you have installed it.
Photographs
The app is designed for you to use photographs of your own child's belongings — their toothbrush, their shoes, their school.
- Photographs you add are stored only on your device, inside the app.
- They are never uploaded, to us or to anyone else.
- When you choose a photograph, the app uses your device's own picture chooser or camera, which hands the app the single image you selected or took. The app is never given access to your photo library.
- Deleting a routine deletes the pictures that belonged to it.
Your device's own backup
If you use iCloud Backup or Google's backup, your device may include this app's data — including your photographs — in your own backup. That backup belongs to you and is controlled by you, and we have no access to it. You can exclude it in your device's settings.
We say this plainly because the alternative — excluding the app from backup — would mean losing every photograph you took when you replace your phone.
No internet connection
Which First makes no network requests of any kind.
On Android, the app asks for one permission: the microphone, so that a grown-up can record their own voice saying the words on the cards. It is asked for only when someone taps record — never when the app starts, and never on a child's screen. You can verify this yourself in the Play listing's permission list.
It still has no INTERNET permission, and that is
what makes the microphone safe rather than alarming. The operating system itself
prevents this app from connecting to a network, whatever the app might attempt.
A recording therefore cannot leave your device — not to us, not to anyone. That
is not a promise in a document; it is enforced by Android, and it is checkable in
the same permission list.
Recordings are kept on your device beside the photographs, and are deleted along with the card they belong to.
If you inspect the app file directly you will find one permission entry ending
DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. It is added automatically
by a standard Android support library, it is defined by this app for this app,
and it grants access to nothing on your device. We mention it because we would
rather tell you than have you find it.
On iOS, the app's App Privacy information records that no data is collected. iOS asks for the microphone the first time a grown-up taps record. You may refuse, and everything else carries on working.
Children
This app is intended to be set up by a parent, carer or professional, and used by a child.
| Personal information collected from anyone, including children | None |
|---|---|
| Accounts, sign-in or profiles held by us | None |
| Voice recordings made in the app | Kept on your device only. Never sent anywhere — the app has no network access |
| Advertising | None |
| In-app purchases | None |
| Chat, sharing, or any way for a child to contact anyone | None |
The setup area is behind a password you choose, so a child using the board cannot reach it.
Because we collect nothing, there is nothing for a parent to request, correct or delete from us. Removing the app removes everything.
Changes to this policy
If this ever changes, the change will appear here with a new date. A change that made the app collect anything would be a change to what the app is, and would be stated plainly rather than buried.
